SCULPTURAL  CERAMICS

A connection with clay and the infinite possibilities to create forms is a constant and liberating force, fuelled by imagination, visual images of nature and the man made.
Sculptures and textured vessels for interior and exterior space are based on a theme of curve and balance with an inherent ability to apply motion emphasizing a sense of our precarious existence.
Preferring the more muted colours achieved from high firing temperatures, stoneware and stained clays are laminated and manipulated to create unique surface effects reminiscent of natural features of landscape and rock formation. The only departure is an ongoing fascination with the unpredictable nature of ‘raku’ firing and its ability to create pattern from deposits of carbon. Clay slabs, thrown gussets and press moulds facilitate construction while transparent, matt glaze accentuates the surface decoration.
